T.R.W.R. and R.T.F.U. need a companion stack—S.H.T.F. preparedness. Because I'm worried you aren't scheduled for enough writing pursuits. 🤣 Love your perspective! Smart. Measured. Valuable.

Love the journal prompt, not enough people are doing this and it helps so much. You forget more than you’ll ever know, and writing my thoughts down have changed everything for me. Great article brother!!!!

What would you suggest if a person works shift work (as I do...) and how to tweak you quarters beyond the obvious meaning to simply apply the same concept to one's particular shifts be they night/day, etc...?

In my particular case, I start my work week on a Friday and work 8hrs on that day, 12hrs on both Sat/Sun, then 8hrs M-Th...so 7 straight days of working DAY shift. I then have 3 days off (F-

I then transition to 5 straight days of working 3pm - 11pm M-F. Off for 2 days (Sat/Sun)

I then transition to my final shift, Night Shift, where I start Mon night at 11pm and work until 7am. I do that same thing M-F, but then work 7pm-7am Sat/Sun, finishing that set at 7am Monday morning.

I'm then off for four days, rinse & repeat starting Day shift that Friday...

Pretty F'd up schedule, but it's stood the test of time where I work and ensures everyone has quality time off..

sigh....

Brilliant as always. The four quarter concept makes a ton of sense. I was super productive before I had kids but now I'm productive in different ways. I live my life in two phases: kids awake and kids asleep. Thanks for the reminder that we need to take the small wins when we can.

Great suggestions, John. My Day naturally breaks down this way with kids. 1- Get kids ready and to school, 2- work out time/Household chores, 3-PhD Work and write time, 4 - get kids from school, feed them, engage with them, put them to bed, 5 - Spend time with my wife. Yes, I have 5/4ths in my day... It's part of the 25-lbs in a 10-lbs sack strategy.
