The mind is the governer of the body and the window to the soul.
In De anima (On the soul), Aristotle tells us that we are born with a blank slate (tabula rasa) on which our experiences and perceptions form the mind.
‘Have not we already disposed of the difficulty about interaction involving a common element, when we said that mind is in a sense potentially whatever is thinkable, though actually it is nothing until it has thought? What it thinks must be in it just as characters may be said to be on a writing tablet on which as yet nothing actually stands written: this is exactly what happens with mind.’
This is why I place the mind between LOE-1 ‘The Body, and LOE-3 ‘The Spirit’ in my 'Lines of Effort' theory.
As Descartes said, “I think, therefore I am.” We could add:
What we think determines who we are.
