You must have a firm handle on your worldview and what is important to you spiritually to identify your purpose.
I think of purpose as a guiding constellation, the Southern Cross in the night sky. We may never reach it, but we can always keep heading that way.
I recently had several coaching clients approach me concerned because they aren’t yet sure about their purpose. They are reluctant to head down a wrong path or dead-end road without knowing with certainty that it will take them where they want to be.
Not having a clear purpose is common and I think the dilemma is exacerbated in the age of ubiquitous social media because it seems that everyone on Instagram, or Tic Tok, or Facebook has a well-defined sense of purpose. It’s easy to feel that you are the only one drifting aimlessly and ask, “What the hell is wrong with me?”
You probably think:
“I know that I want to be happy, and healthy, have good friends, and be a good friend, learn about things I’m curious about, have adventures, and do meaningful work that aligns with my values. But what does that mean? Which direction do I go?”
